I learned quite a bit but one thing did jump out at me. The average person should be able to do a one-hour workout in a fasting state, such as first thing in the morning. One advantage to this is scheduling. My motto is “If it needs to get done, get it it done first.”

The second advantage is that can help train your body to burn fat as a fuel source. This is a good thing if you’re hoping to shed some fat or if you’re a sports enthusiast. One downside to training in a fasting state is that you generally can not have optimal performance.

I have worked out  first thing in the morning for years without issue. I got it done. However, since I have been dealing with Sjogren’s syndrome, an autoimmune disease which causes fatigue and muscle weakness, I have noticed that I can not workout in a fasting state if I am in a flare. I simply do not have the energy. I also noticed that it does help if I have a small serving of carbohydrates, such as 1/2 cup of organic short-grain brown rice, at dinner. Now to fuel my workouts, I try to have half of my Shakeology  1.5 hours before working out. That helps tremendously. I may try half a banana about 30min to an hour before if I’m short on time.

If you’re having low energy during your early morning workouts, try having a little something before and see if it helps or a small serving of carbs with dinner! Let me know if this helps you!
