1. What types of lifestyle changes or treatments might be recommended?
My work is grounded in ancestral nutrition principles, adapted for modern life. This often includes transitioning from ultra-processed foods to a whole-food, nutrient-dense way of eating, with an emphasis on high-quality animal-based proteins and fats to support optimal health, especially during midlife. Poor sleep quality is another common concern, so that’s often one of the first things we work on.
While I support various dietary preferences, my approach may not align well with vegan or fully plant-based diets. This is due to the increased risk of nutritional deficiencies and the potential inflammatory effects of certain plant proteins in autoimmune conditions. If you prefer to avoid animal products for ethical or religious reasons, I may not be the best fit, but I’ll always point you in the direction of someone who is.
2. Do I need a primary care physician?
At Sybil Cooper Wellness, I’m honored to walk alongside you on your journey to deeper health and healing. Before we dive into your Strategy session Appointment, I do ask that you’ve had a physical exam with your primary care provider within the past 12 months. This helps ensure we’re building on a strong foundation.
While I don’t provide acute or primary medical care, my role is to support you as a guide and coach, offering insights from functional, nutritional, and preventive medicine to help uncover the root causes of your chronic health concerns.
I encourage you to stay closely connected with your Primary Care Physician and include them as part of your wellness team. Everything I share is meant to educate, empower, and inspire you—never to replace medical advice, but to complement your care with a holistic, compassionate approach.
“When you listen to your body whisper, you won’t have to hear it scream.”
3. How long do clients typically work with you?
Each program is highly individualized to meet the unique needs of my clients. While some individuals achieve their goals in just a few months, others may benefit from ongoing support for up to a year. On average, most clients work with me for about six months to experience meaningful and lasting changes.
4. What can I expect during my first appointment?
Your first appointment is a comprehensive 1 hour health history intake where we delve deeply into your current health concerns, medical history, lifestyle, and wellness goals. This foundational session is key to crafting a personalized plan tailored to your needs.
5. Do you offer virtual consultations or only in-person appointments?
My practice is fully virtual, making it convenient for clients to connect with me from anywhere. All consultations are conducted via Zoom, providing a secure and flexible platform to discuss your health goals and progress.
6. What types of health concerns do you focus on?
I specialize in midlife women’s health and autoimmune conditions. This includes addressing challenges e.g. sleep issues, stress management, hormonal balance, heart health, metabolic health (e.g., blood glucose control), and more. My holistic approach also encompasses nutrition, exercise, and lifestyle strategies to optimize overall well-being during midlife and beyond.
“I have had many health challenges and changes in the last years, then the hormones in perimenopause aren’t something to ignore either. I needed more guidance with my hormones and gut health.” – GD
7. How does your approach differ from conventional medicine?
At Sybil Cooper Wellness, my approach is a personalized, root-cause approach to healthcare that views the body as an interconnected system. Rather than just treating symptoms, it looks at genetics, lifestyle, and environment to create tailored wellness plans.
While conventional medicine focuses on diagnosing and managing disease, I ask, “Who is this person with these symptoms?” rather than, “What is the diagnosis?” This root-cause approach empowers clients to achieve long-term health and balance.
8. Are lab tests required, and how are they different from standard medical tests?
Lab tests aren’t required, but they can provide valuable insights to guide your personalized care plan. While your physician uses labs to diagnose disease when results fall outside conventional ranges, I use labs to assess optimal health. This means I look at how your results fall within the “normal” range, which often reflects averages from a largely unhealthy population. By focusing on what’s optimal for your body, we can address imbalances before they become major concerns.
As one client shared:
“I have learned a lot about tracking blood glucose levels and the damage that high blood sugar and wildly fluctuating blood sugar can do to the body. I’ve learned a lot about my immune system and how I can identify stressors that cause flare-ups. I’ve learned how to manage my supplements better; for example, I learned that periodic reviews are important; that most supplements are not ‘forever’; and that there are differences between therapeutic and maintenance doses.”
9. What if I would like supplement recommendations?
When you request a supplement recommendation, I do so through Fullscript.com, a trusted online dispensary that offers professional-grade, high-quality products. These supplements are third-party tested for purity and effectiveness, and I give you a nice discount! You are free to source from other outlets.
Unlike many retail supplements found at stores like Wal-Mart, Fullscript’s products are formulated for therapeutic use and tailored to your specific health needs. This ensures that you’re getting safe, targeted support as part of your personalized wellness plan.
“Your Mira discount and Fullscript discount are really really helpful. I know friends that work with MD that have no discounts for supplements, myself included working with my functional doctor in Arizona where supplements were charged at full price or 10-20% higher. I am really appreciative of all you have done and I feel I have gained not only knowledge and support, but a great friend I can always rely on. Thank you, Sybil!” – GD
10. Do you take insurance, or how does payment work?
As a non-licensed professional, I can not accept health insurance plans. However, many clients have successfully used their Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) or Health Savings Accounts (HSA) to cover health coaching services, depending on their plan’s specific rules. I recommend checking with your provider to see if these funds can be applied to your care. For payment, I accept credit card payments through my secure HIPAA-compliant client portal.
