The milkweed that I planted is quite difficult to start from seed. I've planted this milkweed twice and have never had it to spread. In fact, the first year, it never came up again. It is still too early to see if the plants I planted last summer, will come up this spring. In the wild, you see clumps of milkweed but it is hardly invasive. We have several invasive plants in the area that will literally choke everything out in one growing season. There is one milkweed species which is easy to start from seed. I am going to put those at the far back of my property where all the other wild plants are!

We do not have any pets. In my area because of the coyotes etc, no one has outdoor pets. My friend has cats and has always had milkweed in her yard with no issues so it likely depends on how much your pets like to eat plants. I will definitely add that as a caution to my blog.

Last I read, the honey bee had made a comeback. They suffered a double whammy with a co-infection they had a difficult time dealing with. I will have to look up current info on the honeybee. I had a honeybee hive come through my yard. It was amazing!

Although It sounds like a very serious plight and we are not only losing the Monarchs but bees as well.
I would consider planting milk weed in my yard but I have read it can be toxic to my pets. It is also a weed and I do not know how aggressive it would be in my garden.
